Tour Itinerary

A thrilling adventure begins at 8:00 a.m. at the Brothers Expeditions office in Antigua. Here, you will receive your food, water, gloves, caps, and a cold-weather jacket. Backpacks and flashlights are available for rent, and the team will provide a full briefing about the tour. Afterward, we will travel to the village of La Soledad, where local Spanish-speaking guides will welcome you and explain the hike step by step. Once the briefing is complete, the hike begins—a five-hour trek to reach base camp, with scheduled stops for rest, hydration, and meals along the way.

Day 1:

Your Acatenango adventure begins in Antigua, where you’ll travel by shared minivan to the mountain village of La Soledad. Here, your local guide will meet you, provide a safety briefing, explain the route, and help the group establish a comfortable hiking pace. The hike to the base camp takes approximately 5 hours, with regular breaks along the way. Your experienced local guide will lead the group according to everyone’s pace, allowing you to enjoy the scenery and make the most of the journey. You’ll arrive at the camping base around 4:30 PM and have approximately 30 minutes to rest. Afterward, the guide will offer the option to join an additional hike toward Volcán de Fuego, an approximately 3-hour round trip. This optional hike is available for an additional fee. After returning to camp, enjoy a delicious dinner followed by a warm cup of hot chocolate or coffee while taking in the mountain atmosphere.

There is an option to hike Fuego Volcano on the first day, which involves an additional challenging 3-hour round-trip trek. Hikers who wish to participate must confirm directly with the local guide. The extra cost is Q300 per person.

Day 2:

Day 2 begins early at the Acatenango camping base as you prepare for an unforgettable sunrise hike. You’ll start the approximately 3-hour round trip to the summit, reaching the top in time to watch the sunrise over Guatemala’s spectacular volcanic landscape, with incredible views of Volcán de Fuego and the surrounding highlands.

After enjoying the sunrise and taking time to capture the experience, you’ll hike back to the base camp for a well-deserved breakfast. Once you’ve rested and prepared, you’ll begin the approximately 3-hour descent to La Soledad.

From La Soledad, your shared minivan will take you back to Antigua, marking the end of your unforgettable Brothers Expeditions Acatenango adventure.
