Go on a 4-day trip to the pristine island of Ilha Grande. Fall into pace with the locals on this relaxing island where the only means of transportation is by foot. Explore the island as you hike from one beach to the next to find a secluded spot to soak up the sun. Watch the sunset over the ocean with a beautiful backdrop of neighboring islands. Snorkel and swim in the Blue Lagoon, visit the famous Praia Lopes Mendes and taste the rich flavors of the typical Feijoada dish during 2 day-tours.
Our van will come and pick you up at your accommodation in Rio de Janeiro between 10:30 and 12:00am, depending on where we have to pick you up from. From Rio we take you to Conceição de Jacarei, where our own boat will be waiting for you to take you to Ilha Grande. You will arrive on the island around 3pm. You will be dropped off at the pier next to Aquario hostel, a 5 minute walk from the town Abraão. Please note that there are no banks, cash machines, or money exchange offices on Ilha Grande. Make sure you have enough cash before you get on the transfer because it is not possible for the driver to stop at one on the way.
Today you will take a boat tour to Lopes Mendes beach, considered one of the most beautiful beaches on the island. It is a 3 km long beach of white sand, clear water with waves and wild nature, all part of an environmental protected area. The tour starts at the Abraão Pier where you will take the boat for a 50 min ride until the Pouso pier. From there, start an easy walk (30 minutes) through the Atlantic forest until you reach Lopes Mendes beach. After 3 hours of snorkeling, swimming and relaxing on Lopes Mendes, you will return to the Pouso pier to take the boat back to Vila do Abrão.
Today make your own way to the docks and depart to the famous Lagoa Azul (Blue Lagoon). There will be a stop between the two islands. In the shallow part of this lagoon where you'll find blue transparent waters, you will see an abundance of colorful corals and fish which feed off of your hand. The trip will continue with a stop at Praia da Freguesia de Santana. There you will have the chance to discover two beautiful beaches in addition to the historical Santana Church (built in 1796). This was the first place to be populated on Ilha Grande and in the last century, it was the center for economical development of the island housing a slave colony. Today, it is an important historical location. Returning to the boat, you will visit Praia do Japariz and have lunch there. The tour will finish at approximately 4pm and you are free to spend the rest of the day at your leisure.
Today you'll make your way back to Rio de Janeiro. You can choose to leave from the pier next to Aquario hostel at 1pm or from the pier in town. Our boat will take you to Conceição de Jacarei, where our van will be waiting for you to take you to Rio. In Rio we will drop you off at the accommodation of your choice between 5 and 5:30pm, depending on where we have to drop you off.
